The new and improved BMW X5 is expected to be introduced mid-2018, but one of the most notable changes won’t be visible. The G05 X5 will be built based on the CLAR platform, a modular architecture that reduces the final weight of all models due to lightweight materials such as aluminum or CFRP, a compound that will be used for certain elements and reinforcements of the frame. BMW to Debut Ride-Hailing Service in 2021

By 2021 BMW wants to try their hand at a ride-hailing service. BMW is working on a Level 3 autonomous system that can operate at speeds up to 81 miles per hour. According to Dr. Klaus Buettner, BMW’s head of the autonomous program, the system will be operational by 2021, when the BMW Group will also be attempting to launch a pilot program for ride-hailing fleets that may use Level 4-5 autonomous functions.
