BMW of San Antonio wants to give you some tips with how to remove bugs without messing up your paint job!

Spring is officially here! With this rain and new life, also means lot of bugs for us Texans. Although bugs can be a nuisance, it is arguably better than the winter lasting a few months longer. With spring and bugs on the brain, BMW of San Antonio wanted to give you some easy tips on how to get bugs off your car.

FYI: These tips can also be applicable with bird droppings. Follow our simple steps and your BMW will be looking shiny and new in no time!

Why should you care?

A clean car is not only more attractive, but it keeps your vehicle’s value up. The various things that get stuck to your vehicle can actually take the paint off over time. It’s fine if you don’t have the time to clean your car every day, or even every week. But if it's a particularly buggy or birdy day, take a couple minutes to wash off your car.

5 Steps To Remove Bugs Off Your Car

Things you’ll need:

  • 2 microfiber clothes

  • detailer spray

  • water

First: You’ll want to over saturate your cloth with water. Make sure that the cloth is basically sopping wet.

Second: Spray the detailing spray on one side of the wet cloth. If it is a smaller spot, folding the cloth in half will help this process to be cleaner.

Third: Place the cloth with the detailing spray face down on the area you wish to remove.

Fourth: Leave the cloth on the area for 5 to 10 minutes.

Fifth (and final step): Remove the wet cloth and use the clean dry microfiber cloth to wipe up the spot. You want to remove all residue. You should be left with a nice clean area!

Not Convinced?

It is truly important that you remove these spots from your vehicle, especially bird droppings. Bird droppings contain uric acid, which can ultimately eat through the paint on your vehicle. You do not want to leave it on long enough to get to that point. Don’t worry, if it does get to that point you can use a compound paint cleaner to remove the etching. After, you would polish the paint and re-apply with paint sealant or wax.

Yikes, the bugs are everywhere!

Often you don’t just have one dead bug, they are everywhere! What do you do? If there are bug splatters all over your windshield, it would be best to use a hose to make the entire area wet. You will then want to use some baking soda and a rag to rub the areas out. Hose down the area until all off your windshield is clean and baking soda free!

We hope this helps! Keep us in mind when you need a new vehicle or any work done. We want to take care of you!
