The current version of the BMW X1 has already proven to be popular with luxury drivers from San Antonio, TX and beyond, but like any true masterpiece, it's never truly complete. BMW has already stated that a redesigned version of the X1 is in development, and one piece of news regarding the next-gen version is already making headlines.

BMW was recently spied testing a new version of the X1 that's due to be released some time in 2016. This may sound early for speculation, but one of the biggest rumored changes is that the BMW X1 will feature a front-wheel drive platform, rather than the traditional rear-wheel drive base that new BMW models are typically known for.

What does this mean for the X1, exactly? Rear-wheel drive tends to be associated with sporty vehicles, but front-wheel drive brings quite a bit of benefits to the table as well. For instance, front-wheel drive vehicles are typically a bit more efficient and easier to repair.

Whichever system BMW chooses to go with, we can count on one aspect of the BMW X1 to continue to shine, and that would be its commitment to safety.

Essentially, both are great systems, and we here at BMW of San Antonio think that the X1 is a great vehicle regardless of which set of wheels are driving it forward, front or rear.

That being said, there's sure to be quite a bit more information regarding the 2016 BMW X1 surfacing in the near future, and everyone at our dealership is dedicated to keeping you in the loop.
