For years BMW has been known to be ahead of the curve when it comes to developing innovative technology. Here at BMW of San Antonio, we were excited to learn that with the release of BMW's forthcoming electric vehicles, the German outfit is looking to the horizon for a little extra boost.
In an effort to make their EVs even more energy-efficient, BMW has partnered with a solar energy company based in Dresden, Germany, to create solar panels that could help collect energy to charge the plug-in vehicles.
Leave it to BMW to find a way to make their electric offerings even better for the environment. Not only will drivers be solely reliant on electricity to power their cars, but by installing solar panels on the roofs of their homes or carports, drivers will be able to draw that electricity from the most powerful, all-natural energy source there is.
It is important to note that the i3 and i8 are BMW models through and through. The added solar energy will be well-utilized to give these vehicles the performance and refinement that drivers have come to expect from the luxury brand.
Though this technology seems to be pretty advanced, the BMW i-3 and i-8 are expected to be released some time in 2014. So get ready San Antonio, TX, drivers. It won't be long before these electric-powered vehicles are available at our new BMW dealership. While you wait, keep an eye on our blog and we'll be sure to update you with any further developments.
