When the great outdoors calls, you answer with a weekend's worth of leisure equipment, a couple of mountain bikes, and s'mores for everyone. However, just because you let your beard grow a little long in the winter doesn't mean that you want to sacrifice any style in the name of adventure.
Well, if that sounds like you, then the BMW Concept Active Tourer could be a perfect match for your lifestyle. Though it's currently not in production, this crossover has still given the BMW of San Antonio staff plenty to get excited about.
Beginning with its ecofriendly drivetrain, the vehicle's three-cylinder engine is paired up with an electric motor which features plug-in technology. Don't let those three cylinders send you trailing off in the wrong direction, though. Put your Birkenstocks to the floor and you'll go from 0-62 in under 8 seconds thanks to the model's output of 190hp. Though it only covers 19 miles or so on pure electric power, the road less traveled shouldn't be a problem as the crossover stretches for 95 miles on just one gallon of gas.
Now about those leisure activities: The cargo area of the concept vehicle boasts a tougher interior surface to make cleaning easier and to reduce wear and tear. Plus, it comes equipped with two included bicycle carriers that are there when necessary and can be stowed away when not in use.
Concept models have a tendency to come and go, but we're pretty confident that at the very least the technology in this versatile model will eventually end up in a new BMW right here in our San Antonio, TX showroom.
