Daimler at a Glance and the BMW Group Partner Up for All-New Joint Mobility Company

Just announced, the BMW group and Daimler at a Glance (Daimler AG) have begun planning the next steps for their upcoming joint mobility company, especially now that they have approval from the competition authorities. Owned in equal parts by both Daimler AG and the BMW Group, this new joint venture will focus on the expansion of urban mobility by making it easier to access, more intuitive, and wholly focused on the needs of the user. Through this upcoming mobility company, customers can easily and effortlessly navigate through a connected ecosystem of vehicles--much like Uber and Lyft. Now that the new company has approval, the BMW Group and Daimler AG hope to finalize their transaction by the end of January 2019.

Daimler AG and the BMW Group’s new mobility company will be comprised of multiple services and activities including:

  1. CarSharing with DriveNow and Car2Go -- With Car2Go and DriveNow’s combined 20,000 vehicles that are currently available in over 30 international cities, CarSharing will be an included service in the newly formed mobility company which will ultimately help reduce the total number of overall vehicles in the city.

  1. Ride-Hailing with mytaxi, Clever Taxi, Beat, and Chauffeur Privé -- Reducing inner city traffic in Europe and South America, ride-hailing services like mytaxi, Chauffeur Privé, Beat, and Clever Taxi already serve over 15 million customers, making them (Intelligent Apps GmbH) one of the leading providers of ride-hailing in their respective locations. This feature of Daimler AG and the BMW Group’s new mobility company is sure to see explosive growth on a more accessible platform.

  1. Multimodal and On-Demand Mobility with ReachNow and moovel -- Multimodal platforms such as moovel and ReachNow aim to offer solutions for the needs of private urban transportation, including--but not limited to--providing cars as a service.

  1. Parking with Parkmobile Group/Parkmobile LLC and ParkNow -- Not only is ticketless and cashless on-street parking better for the environment but innovative digital parking services like ParkNow and Parkmobile Group/Parkmobile LLC help reduce the amount of time spent driving around trying to find a parking space. More efficiency for everyone, including a reduction in overall traffic of up to 30%.

  1. Charging with Digital Charging Solutions and ChargeNow -- With a focus on electromobility as part of this urban expansion, the BMW Group and Daimler AG will provide easy access to the largest network of public charging stations in the world. With easier access to charging stations, the transition to an all-electric mobile future will be even more feasible.
