Originally introduced in 2014, the BMW i3 is a unique luxury electric vehicle that brings fun and delight back to the road. Newly released for this year is the all-new BMW i3s--the sporty trim that’s now available for this beloved electric car that gives it a little more attitude and speed. Featuring a surprisingly spacious cabin and a futuristic design, we’re here to take a closer look at what updates come standard in this exciting new trim for a staple BMW favorite.
Known for its shockingly narrow tire design, the all-new BMW i3s gets ever-so-slightly wider tires for even more agility and grippability on the go. Continuing to rely on Bridgestone Ecopias, the i3s’s front tires are now 20” instead of 19” and are just a mere 175 mm while the rear wheels are somewhat broader 195 mm. Even with the increase in width, these are still some of the narrowest wheels available on the market today. However, these wider, grippier wheels do have a moderately negative effect on the overall gas mileage of the car, reducing the gas mileage of the i3s from 114 miles per gallon to just 107.
But don’t let the seven-mile difference deter you, the BMW i3s has the extra performance to make up for any mileage you may miss. Matching its overall sportier look, the i3s generates 181 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque for a zippier, more agile driving experience. More horsepower translates to more speed, and the i3s has just that; going from 0-60 in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 99 miles per hour, you’ll be grinning from ear to ear with joy as you drive it. And with the i3s’s available driving modes like Sport, Eco Pro, and Eco Pro+, you’ve never been more in control of your ultimate driving experience.
