BMW recently announced the plans for their Vision E^3 Way. This dedicated network of elevated highways aims to reduce congestion and increase traffic capacity by creating an entire highway system solely for one method of transportation: bikes.

The Vision E^3 Way is a series of elevated highways connecting different traffic hubs and they only permit two-wheeled electric vehicles. Whether it be motorcycles, scooters, or bicycles, they simply must be zero-emissions and only have two wheels. Riders can use the highways to enjoy peaceful rides of up to 9.3 miles per hour.

The three Es in E^3 represent elevated, electric, and efficient. By creating this dedicated highway network, the concept can simultaneously reduce traffic loads on existing highways and expand overall capacity. Safety is an obvious priority, with a low speed limit of approximately 16 miles per hour. For those who don’t own an electric bike, one would be able to rent near the highway entrance and a series of roofs would ensure that the road remains an option in inclement weather.

As of now, this is just a study and is far from being a perfect solution to the ever-present traffic and pollution problem we are constantly facing. However, BMW is consistently attempting to mitigate the effects of both, which have led to the outcome of E^3.

Would you be interested to see this type of highway system in our neck of the woods to potentially cut down on traffic and pollution? We’d love your feedback!
