Whether you’re still feeling the effects from your July 4th travel, or are gearing up to visit family over the long Labor Day weekend in a few months, having a few helpful travel tips might make it all a little less stressful. Take a look at the following tips to ensure that your trip is smooth sailing all-around.
Be prepared. It will take more time and effort on the front end, but by packing snacks, water, pillows, blankets, phone chargers, etc. you will have a more comfortable trip. Packing food and drinks limits the amount of pit stops due to hunger (but increases the amount of potty breaks….oops), and remembering the comfort items will increase your passenger’s satisfaction. Happy passengers go a long way on a long drive!
Map your route in advance and be prepared for busy roads during the peak times of day. If possible, you might consider leaving earlier or later to avoid heavy traffic times. If using a navigation app, be sure that alerts within the app’s settings are turned ‘on’ so you can stay updated about hazards ahead, cars stopped, or lane closures without taking your eyes off the road.
Keep valuables out of sight. Road trips inevitably mean stopping for bathroom or food breaks periodically. Unfortunately you won’t always have the luxury of stopping somewhere reputable when you pull over, leaving the items in your car visible to strangers. Keeping them safely stored away in the trunk or a covered storage area out of view is a safe bet when you’re in unfamiliar territory.
Most importantly, make sure your vehicle is properly maintained. If your vehicle is due for an oil change, tire rotation, brake check, etc. don’t leave town before getting all the necessary service requirements up to date. Leaving these things to chance could put you in danger on a long road trip and the last thing you want on a holiday weekend getaway is to be stranded. Our technicians at BMW of San Antonio can quickly perform a routine checkup on your vehicle and make sure everything is operating smoothly before your upcoming trip.
