As we eagerly anticipate the release of new 2018 BMW models, there are already faint murmurs of what’s to come in 2019. As AutoBlog reported earlier this month, the 2019 BMW X7 is almost ready for its Frankfurt debut next month.
Whispers of a possible X7 date back more than a decade, but BMW has been reluctant to launch a larger vehicle, instead focusing on smaller models. Finally in 2014, the strong demand for a larger SUV got the green light. Based on the prototypes, the X7 will be based on the X5 and a modular platform they are calling Cluster Architecture. It is being assembled in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The kidney grille’s simple, athletic styling is evident on the fenders. The latest spy images lead to speculation about what’s hiding under the hood, likely a turbo six-cylinder. A hybrid and diesel variant are also predicted in some markets, and an eight-cylinder and V12 are also rumored. A plug-in hybrid offering could be similar to the drivetrain used in the 740e.
With three full rows on the interior, the 2019 X7 will be BMW’s first true seven-seater. It will also feature a cockpit design similar to that inside the 2016 7-Series. We can also anticipate a driver-focused layout and advanced infotainment system featuring gesture control. The X7 will soon be the largest and most luxurious vehicle in their lineup. BMW has confirmed that we can expect it to go on sale in 2018.
