Safety is important to BMW of San Antonio. Are you guilty of any of these bad habits that may be compromising your safety?
San Antonio is not the easiest place to drive. And we are all guilty of cutting our corners when it comes to driving. It’s really hard to always be the perfect driver. Especially when life is getting busy or it’s 5 o'clock traffic. We all have bad days, get distracted or stop caring. But sometimes it can be good to sweat the small stuff. Because the smallest mistakes can make a huge difference regarding your safety.
At BMW San Antonio we have compiled some of our worst driving habits. How many of these are you guilty of? Be honest…
Here are 7 driving habits we need to quit.
Tailgating
Tailgating is one dangerous way for drivers to rudely irritate one another. Some people do it spitefully, while others do it accidentally.
Most people know what tailgating entails, but just in case. Tailgating is basically when another vehicle drives too close to another. This can result into an accident if the vehicle in front stops suddenly. Both vehicles are put at risk during tailgating. Driver’s visibility is compromised, and your chance of getting into an accident is higher.
Accelerating Through Yellow Lights
We all have places to be! It is so frustrating to not make the light when it’s green. However, it does not actually set you back much on time. If you’re late, it is probably not the light’s fault. Stay safe, and slow down when the light turns yellow.
Not Checking Blind Spots
YOLO is not exactly a trending term. But in any case it’s definitely not one to bring back for your driving purposes. We have the do’s and don’ts to the term YOLO and your driving.
Here is an example of when “You Only Live Once” should be used:
“Would you like to try the bacon wrapped filet mignon?” she asked.
“YOLO!” he replied.
Here is an example when it should not be used:
“Is there someone in that other lane?” she asked.
“YOLO!” he replied.
Check your blind spots! Fortunately, BMW has the technology available to help reduce your blind spots. But taking the extra second to double check could save your life.
Ignoring Traffic Signs
There is no such thing as a “California stop sign” or a “rolling stop.” If your wheels are still rolling, you probably never stopped.
Forgetting To Use The Blinker
A blinker should be used in the following situations:
Anytime you turn your wheel to make a turn.
Speeding
We all know that speeding is unsafe for all on the road. Don’t do it. The tickets are expensive and accidents are far worse when the drivers were speeding.
Texting While Driving
To quote the Tim McGraw song, “the highway don’t care.” If the message is extremely important, pullover. There is no such thing as multitasking, and there have been far too many lives that have been lost due to sending a text.
