Everyone loves a good chain restaurant right in the heart of downtown San Antonio. We have a ton of great places to grab a bite to eat that everyone is familiar with.

However, every once in awhile we all want to take a drive out of town to eat in a place that people rarely know about. Because many times, that's where some of the best grub in the state is.

The team here at BMW of San Antonio loves to find new restaurants here in Texas, and in our travels we've found some of the finest eating this country has to offer. Here are five of our personal favorites.

1) On The River (Freeport, TX)

The best seafood is the kind that comes straight out of the water. Just by the name of this place, you can probably gather where they get their fresh crawfish and catfish. Yep, right from their backyard. It's about 3 hours and 45 minutes from San Antonio, so it's quite a drive. But if you're feeling adventurous one weekend, this is spot to hit up.

2) Texan Cafe (Hutto, TX)

It looks old school, and it certainly is. Their fried okra, chicken and pies are to DIE for. Fortunately, this amazing cafe is just an hour and 45 minutes away, which is a lot better than the last choice, if you're looking for something closer. Go get you some good old-fashioned country cooking.

3) Nano's Taco Run (Corpus Christi, TX)

We couldn't make this list without mentioning tacos. Our state has the best tacos in the country, so naturally there are hundreds of phenomenal taco joints all over Texas. But this is one of our top picks. Their breakfast tacos are to die for, and their homemade hot sauce is simply legendary. The two-hour drive is so worth it.

4) Allen's Family Style Meals (Sweetwater, TX)

It fits the mold of a hole-in-the-wall Texas gem, without question. If you're a fried chicken fan, sprint here. You'll feel like you're having dinner at grandma's house. It's four hours away, but if you're on a road trip in that direction, pull over. Country heaven is waiting.

5) Kolancy's Bar-B-Q (Hallettsville, TX)

If you're looking for something finger-lickin' good (literally) a little town called Hallettsville about an hour and 45 minutes away from San Antonio can help you with that. They've been serving their brand of BBQ and award-winning half chickens since 1989. If you know anything about the restaurant business, a local joint that's stuck around for over 25 years is typically pretty amazing.

The best way to get to all of these places is in a BMW, obviously. Check out our online inventory and prepare to salivate. Let us know what your favorite Texas restaurants are on our Facebook page while you're at it! We'd love to hear your thoughts.
