Electrically powered vehicles have been a popular point of conversation in the industry recently. We're getting closer and closer to EV cars becoming mainstream, because they save a ridiculous amount of gas.

Well, BMW is hopping on that train, too.

BMW has announced that they are working on an electrically powered edition of the BMW i8. It's going to have a range of 250 miles on electricity. That's incredible.

Our BMW dealership in San Antonio is very excited with what BMW has been doing with this and we can't wait to see this come to life.

"The plan is for the electric-powered i8 -- which may be pressed into action as a successor to the current i8-based Formula E safety car next year -- to be based around the carbon fire structure developed for the BMW division's fuel cell prototype, revealed last year," BMW developer Klaus Fröhlich says.

BMW also says that this i8 prototype will have three brushless electric motors for its new all-wheel-drive unit. They're aiming to keep the same weight of the car, despite the battery pack being really heavy.
