The San Antonio Spurs were originally founded as the "Dallas Chapparals" in 1967. The team was purchased by a group of businessmen from San Antonio in 1973 and renamed the "San Antonio Gunslingers" and quickly again to the San Antonio Spurs.
Tim Duncan's start in competitive sports was with swimming. He didn't play organized basketball until the 9th grade!
The Spurs have made the playoffs 24 out of the last 25 seasons.
