It may not yet feel like fall in San Antonio with the warmer temperatures, but don't let that stop you from getting into the Halloween spirit. At BMW of San Antonio, one of our favorite fall activities is visiting a pumpkin patch. San Antonio pumpkin patches have many different activities including hayrides, mazes, photo ops and more.
A few of our team members wanted to share their tips and ideas for the best Halloween pumpkin! Having a great Halloween pumpkin begins with picking the best one. Look for one with a thick stem, flat bottom and no bruises. If you'll be carving your pumpkin, a large flatter faced pumpkin will work better. The best place to find pumpkins is straight from one of our local pumpkin patches. Here’s some we recommend:

Once you choose your perfect pumpkin, you have several options on how to get it in the Halloween spirit. Find a design that fits your personality and abilities. If you don't like the mess of carving, try painting it or using thumbtacks to make works and designs.
If you stick with the classic carved jack-o-lantern, we have some great new tips and tricks for you!
Cut the lid at an angle so the top won’t drop inside once you're finished carving.
Rub petroleum jelly on the cut edges to seal in the moisture.
If your pumpkin begins to shrivel up, soak it in cold water for up to eight hours.
Sprinkle in some cinnamon, so your jack-o-lantern will smell like pumpkin pie once you light the candle inside.
If you want a pumpkin that is less traditional and a lot less messy, we like to paint or spray paint pumpkins! Gold thumbtacks are an easy way to spice up this design. Or coat your pumpkin with chalkboard paint and use chalk to write different phrases and designs once it dries.
