One of BMW’s latest and greatest innovations isn’t a car at all, but a gadget that’s truly about to change the automotive game. The BMW Display Key is a touchscreen fob available exclusively with the BMW i8 and 2016 BMW 7 Series.
A large part of innovation is constantly seeking change. For BMW, that means pushing boundaries to improve functionality and connectivity. This key does so much more than lock and unlock your Beemer.
Using the same gestures as a smartphone, the new BMW Display Key has the following functions and features:
Displays essential information such as time and driving range, which includes fuel level and electric battery range.
Check for needed service.
See if doors and windows are locked.
Control auxiliary heating and conditioning.
Manage Remote Control Parking* (RCP) allowing the driver to move the car forward into or reverse out of a parking space when outside of the car.
The 2.2-inch LCD screen is composed of 3D glass and aluminium and has a resolution of 320x240 pixels. The remote control has a range of around 900 feet. The Display Key also has four conventional buttons for locking, unlocking, opening the trunk, and honking the horn (in case you forget where you park).
