With the 2014 Chicago Auto Show rapidly approaching, you're probably curious what the Bavarian automaker has in store for us this year. Fortunately, just a few days ago, BMW revealed what will be available for sale this spring: the 2014 BMW 740Ld xDrive.

Yes, BMW will now have a diesel version of the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan and it will be powered using the same 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six diesel engine that's found under the hoods of both the BMW X5 x Drive35d crossover and the BMW 535d sedan. The engine produces a promising 255-horsepower and 413 lb.-ft. of torque, is linked to an eight-speed automatic and BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive, and helps shoot the vehicle from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds.

As far as EPA fuel figures go, we do not have those yet. BMW will surely have them available the closer to the Chicago days approach. BMW did say that it anticipates a 25-30 percent improvement in efficiency versus the regular gasoline-powered model.
