The third generation BMW X5 has only recently arrived at our San Antonio, TX dealership. Even in its relative infancy, the new Sports Activity Vehicle has found a home with quite a few local drivers.

BMW has always made sure to distribute the wealth when it comes to which models get refreshed. And they certainly wouldn't want the X5 to monopolize the spotlight. Therefore, they've already gotten to work on an updated X6.

The automaker is clearly in the earlier stages of development. However, it can't be a completely top secret operation as the BMW R&D team elected to take an X6 prototype out on the massive circuit at Nürburgring. Not exactly flying under the radar, but still our view of the vehicle is obscured by the classic black and white matting that clads virtually every tester spied from New Braunfels to Bavaria.

What we can decipher from the spy shots is that the model is still sporting the alluring part car-part crossover architecture. Under the hood we expect that the top-shelf X6 will still make use of the same twin turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that you'll find in the current BMW X6 M. Just for reference, that mill turns out an impressive 550-hp, too.

When we learn more about the newest X6, we'll fill you in on the BMW of San Antonio blog. In the meantime, there's no need to stay glued to your RSS Feed. You can always give that 500-plus power rating a go by dropping into our new BMW showroom today.
