Drivers in the greater Austin area who stop in to BMW of San Antonio can take a closer look at high-performing vehicles that are powered by gasoline. But very shortly they'll be able to view a new lineup of diesel-powered models on their way to the United States, too.

The BMW 3 Series will be the first to be diesel-powered, including the sedan, a station-wagon version, and the GT version. Each will be available in rear- and all-wheel drive, and production is expected to begin on these vehicles in July.

Next in line would be the BMW 5 Series. Here BMW will offer a new diesel engine for it's full-sized sedan: a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. It's expected that this oil-powered ride is going to churn out 255 horsepower with 413 pound-feet of torque, and available in rear- or all-wheel drive, too. Like the 3 Series, production of vehicles like the BMW 535d will begin in July.

While there are two more diesel engine vehicles in the new BMW lineup, they aren't coming stateside just yet. Overseas there are diesel variants for the BMW 4 Series coupe and convertible, along with the BMW X5. Of course, the X5 will be available in its traditional gas-powered edition here in the BMW of San Antonio showroom, for those in need of a luxury utility vehicle.
