BMW Designworks and The North Face Team Up to Take On The Elements

 

BMW Group’s company called Designworks has partnered up with cold-weather specialists The North Face to create an innovative and informative camper virtual reality experience in order to understand how we can better protect ourselves from the elements in the future. This camper concept was created in order to show off The North Face’s totally new FUTURELIGHT fabric which uses revolutionary Nanospinning technology in order to create the world’s most breathable and waterproof material. This technology allows The North Face to create nano-sized holes for added porosity in the material without having to sacrifice any waterproofness. Laura Robin, Designworks LA Studio Director, explains, “We combined both physical and digital worlds to showcase this material, ensuring the holistic vision of the brand was clearly communicated, while giving people a real ‘hands-on’ experience. Thinking about extreme performance in new and unexpected ways from our experience of working across multiple industries, helped us to provide consumers with a unique and never before seen insight into the very heart of the material and its key attributes.”

Inspired by the BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car from 2008, the FUTURELIGHT Camper concept consists of a fabric outer shell covering a geodesic dome. This concept is intended to highlight the multiple uses of the FUTURELIGHT fabric far beyond that of just apparel and ultimately has the potential to truly revolutionize the textile market. The FUTURELIGHT Camper was originally on display by invite-only from January 7-11 of 2019 in Las Vegas; however, the FUTURELIGHT fabric will start to be available for consumer use in The North Face’s new product line launching in the fall of 2019.
