BMW Reveals Plans for Subscription Service

BMW recently announced it would be joining the fleet of automakers testing car subscriptions services. BMW’s program, called Access BMW will first be offered by a dealer in Tennessee beginning next month.

Vehicle manufacturers are beginning to see the popularity of subscription services rise among younger consumers whose shopping behavior is shaped by purchasing one bundled service. Subscription services combine multiple elements of vehicle ownership into one convenient monthly payment. Ultimately the vehicle owner doesn’t have to source and pay for items such as insurance and maintenance separate to the monthly leasing payment.

In addition to bundling almost all the costs of vehicle upkeep (with the exception of fuel), most programs also allow subscribers to switch between different models during the agreement as well. While the monthly cost of the subscription service would seem much higher than existing lease agreements, the companies would explain that this is because of the additional items included in the price and the option to switch vehicles much sooner than if you were leasing one specific vehicle. The option to change models during the term of the subscription is a unique selling point that even fully-maintained lease agreements don’t offer right now.

Would a BMW subscription service be something you would consider? We anticipate this concept being very popular in the BMW community!
